It was the summer of 1983 that I bought my first Street Machine magazine and in it was a new feature on model kits called Small Talk.
I think this was a Knight Rider model kit I had prior to getting into the customising kit thing and was unmade until after I had picked up some tips in Small Talk.
Small Talk (SM) started their own model project using the Ford Galaxie by AMT. Heavily influenced by now and I was looking to move on from butchering/modifying my diecasts, I rushed out and bought my own AMT Galaxie kit. I also bought a F1 Williams kit just so I could use the rear slicks. I was using car aerosols by now (using a special base coat to protect the plastic) and all this in my bedroom!
El Camino
Ford truck - Note the rear wheels on the trucks and Firebird, were off some old Tonka Trucks with the treads shaved and sanded down
The hot rod as I remember, was a very long project over several months and and I made a diary of what I did, but unfortunately that has long gone... Basically the base kit was the ZZ Top Eliminator and I used acrylic paint for the first time. The car had a scratch built dropped beam with steering and sprung (biro springs) rear suspension. I had discovered milliput and this was used extensively in this car.
The 57 Chevy is probably my favourite, also prob my best for details and tidiness!
These had been packed away since I left home way back in 1987 and only the 57 Chevy had seen the light of day since a s I dug it out to finish it off in 1994. Unfortunately the polysyrene chippings had stuck to the cars hence the rough looking paint and the yellow ford truck almost disintegrated as I lifted it out of the box.
Cheers,
Dom
EDIT: I forgot to add the Pink Sierra in Acrylic Pink! This took several coats of paint as the Acrylics were quite thin and watery.
